Brazil, officially Federative Republic of Brazil 7 September 8 (in Portuguese: Federative Republic of Brazil)

, is a sovereign country in South America comprising the eastern half of the continent and some groups of small islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

With an estimated population of over 8.5 million km ² area, is the world's fifth largest country in total area (equivalent to 47% of the South American territory) .10 Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7491 km.11 its northern border with the French overseas department of French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana and Venezuela; on the northwest by Colombia; on the west by Bolivia and Peru; on the southeast by Paraguay and Argentina, and on the south by Uruguay. Thus bordering every country in South America except Ecuador and Chile.11 For the most part , the country is between the terrestrial tropics , so the seasons do not feel radically largely thereof . The Amazon rainforest covers 3.6 million km ² of its territory. Thanks to its climate and vegetation, is one of the countries with the most species of animals in the world.

Brazil, previously inhabited by Indians, was discovered by Europeans in 1500, by a Portuguese expedition led by Pedro Alvares Cabral. Following the Treaty of Tordesillas, the Brazilian territory was the segment of the American continent which corresponded to the kingdom of Portugal, which obtained its independence on September 7, 1822. Thus, the country went from being central part of the kingdom of Portugal to an empire to finally become a republic. Its first capital was Salvador, which was replaced by Rio de Janeiro until a new capital, Brasilia was built. Its current Constitution, formulated in 1988, defines Brazil as a Federative Republic presidencialista.9 The Federation is formed by the union of the Federal District, the 26 states and 5565 municipalities.

Language

The official language is Portuguese. It also speaks Guaraní and other indigenous languages.

Spanish is spoken in the border regions, where also the phenomenon occurs appreciative.

Typical food

Brazilian cuisine varies greatly depending on each region, so that it reflects the mix of native and immigrant populations. This has defined a national cuisine marked by the preservation of these differences regionales.1 among the best examples are Feijoada, considered the national dish; vatapá, moqueca, polenta and acarajé. Brazil has a variety of candies such as brigadier and beijiño. The national beverage is coffee and cachaça, a native Brazilian distilled beverage. This drink is distilled from sugar cane and is the main ingredient in the national cocktail, the caipiriña.

Although the variety of dishes, a typical Brazilian meal consists of rice and beans, accompanied by beef or pork and a salad, or a boiled or fried egg, fries, or farofa, made of corn or flour cassava and season with salt basically could have oregano, fried onions and bacon. Thanks to the tropical climate that prevails in much of its territory in Brazil a variety of fruits are grown , such as mango , papaya, acai , the cupuaçu , orange , cocoa, cashew, guava, passion fruit and pineapple. Of all these fruit juices and extracts which are used for the manufacture of chocolates, candies, ice cream and other desserts.

Music

Brazilian music is a living reflection of the cultural diversity of this country, indigenous, African and European influences. Besides nova and samba, bossa famous worldwide, several paradigmatic genres identified Brazilian music.
