A Spooky Welcome

It feels like yesterday but it was already a year ago since it happen. I was on a family vacation at Colombia. It was all joy and happiness, my vacations were filled with awesome touristic spot visits, shopping, and beach parties, I was really having a great time. After spending two weeks there, we returned to Mexico, ready to return to our normal lives, without having much to do really. My grandmother had stayed at our house while we were on vacation. At the time we got home, my grandmother greeted us and immediately gave my father a business card with the name and number of a detective. He told my dad that the detective had come to the house the day before and wanted to talk to him about something important .

While my father called the detective to arrange an appointment, I told my grandmother from our vacation. I told her about all the different people, culture and music from Colombia, which I was amazed of. I told her about all the food and all his special flavors. Also, I detailed all the tours we had to many different places, from the beaches to the clubs. When I finished telling her about my great experience, my dad had already hung up the phone.

The next day, my father went to the police station. He and the detective met for a few hours while we were at home waiting for his return. When he got back, he told us what happened at the meeting. The investigator asked him about all the details of our itinerary at Colombia. As my father didn't know why he was there , he was very confused, but answered all the questions and explained about all the activities we did though. After knowing what we had done, the detective asked for all of our encounters with Colombians and the stuff we bought there.

So my father told the detective everything that happened in our vacation, since we left the country until we returned to Mexico. My father had to give his testimony several times for the detective to finally trust him. The detective smiled at last and told my dad he was at charge of an investigation and he thought my dad was involved with a criminal organization between Mexico and Colombia to kidnap people. My dad was astonished, he couldn't even talk nor blink, until I finally started laughing. I literally asked him if it was a joke, my dad did the same back in the station, but the detective smiled and replied that it wasn't. He told my dad he should not worry about it, because he got to realize that my father was innocent after the interrogatory.

Upon hearing this story, my family was very concerned about these investigations until a week later, when my father received a call from the detective. We got really scared because he spoke very softly on the phone but finally sighed in relief at the end. He then slowly turned with a smile and told us that the detective had apologized for the inconvenience. The detective told my dad
