Zacatecas and the Day of Dead

Zacatecas, a colonial state give us a sample of their traditions with popular link about live and dead, knowing internationally as: Day of the Dead, on the way the people of the town of Pinos give us. In history, the town of Pinos is adjacent to the state of Jalisco to the south and San Luis Potosi to the east, was habited by chichimecas, especially by the tribe of the chalchihuites (It was also habited by the south Tepehuans and Zacatecas people, who in ancient times, did other religious rites to honor their deads, and when a loved person died, the custom within this tribe was putting the body in a fire, cremated, and the ashes were split between people and put into a leather bag that was always strapped to his waist with a tie that was also of the same material ... leather . Now a day the town of Pinos is the most important within the celebration of Day of Dead, the offering is very traditional, no matter how big or small, rich or poor, and that the offering of dead is prepared and displayed to please the dead. In it, which is nothing but an shrine, arranged flowers, candles and photographs, vessels, platters, bottles and especially food will consume by the spirit that usually visit the family. So, it is most common in domestic shrines are placed bread, tamales, atole and traditional dishes such as gorditas, pumpkins and enchiladas. Something special about the offerings is that if the family had a miner, (or even there no one), they used to put different types of precious stones in the shrine. Generally the offering has 2 or 3 floors, sometimes counting the floor like the first level you can put the picture of the deceased along with their belongings, and according to popular tradition representing heaven and earth respectively, in the subsequent floors it takes place a flower shrine. That´s why in the table are founding the images of the dead in worship, and symbols of faith, as water and fire elements represented by liquids such as atole, pulque, water or other drinks, and whit candles and waxes. On the floor are placed elements symbolizing the air and earth, in this case are lights in different shapes like hearts, crosses and crowns. The characteristic of the town of Pinos in Zacatecas, is that the lights that were placed on the floor, skipped by the women and the kids, no matter the flames reach achieve these, because this is the tie that binds the living and the dead. While the old people, along with the children who wish to accompany their parents and some ladies, get on the nearest hill, and also put luminaires for the dead who had no home doing a little dance characteristic of the region and with these steps leaping flames.

Found in Zacatecas funeral offering since 900 years old

Archaeologists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History ( INAH ) found a funerary offering over 900 years old , made a lot of snails , shell beads and copper objects, in the Teúl Hill, Prehispanic site expected open to the public next year. In a statement, the INAH explained that the deposit located in the vicinity of a prehispanic furnace for the smelting of copper, which should run between 900 and 1200 years of our times, may be an offering that accompanied an important character of the place, buried between 1100-1300 aC. they noted that what is now the archaeological site Teúl Hill, south of Zacatecas, was available 900 years ago a rich burial offering consists of 540 snails, 101 plates and 12 shell beads, three beads of jade, a bell and two copper clamps, among other things, to accompany the dead body of an important character of the place.
