¿Qué es Report Speech?

El Report Speech también conocido como estilo indirecto es una estructura gramatical muy utilizada en el idioma inglés que se emplea cuando reportamos o hacemos mención sobre algo que alguien ha dicho previamente; es decir, es la forma en que reproducimos lo que otra persona dice sin utilizar comillas.

Los verbos que más se emplean para decir lo que otra persona dijo son: "Say" y "tell" son los más usados

-Ejemplo con "say". Anne said she was bored. Ana dijo que estaba aburrida.

-Ejemplo con "tell". My boss told me to call you. Mi jefe me dijo que te llamase.

También se emplea: Ask(ed) = para preguntas. Nota: Con "ask" utilizaremos también "if/whether", esto es el "si" condicional.

Ejemplo con "ask": The authorities asked if there was a health problem in the area. Las autoridades preguntaron si había un problema de salud en el área.

Uso del Report Speech

El Report Speech o estilo indirecto lo utilizamos para contar lo que una persona

ha dicho, pero sin citar exactamente sus palabras.

Ejemplos:

• Direct Style:

Tom said: “We are going to the cinema this afternoon”

• Reported Speech:

Tom said that they were going to the cinema that afternoon

Estructura del Reporte Speech

Hay unas palabras que debemos aprender antes de usar el estilo indirecto, ya que éstas se usan cuando queremos usar el estilo indirecto.

El tiempo verbal. Dependiendo de qué tiempo verbal escogemos, el estilo indirecto deberá llevar uno u otro.
