2.- Indicate its location.

It is Located in Antofagasta, second Region, El Loa Province, San Pedro de Atacama area, Chile.-

3.-  Communities found (Remember to include all living things)

Fauna:   Vicuña,   Fox  Chilla y Culpeo, Viscachas,  Chululos, Flamingos , ñandúes, cóndores, eagles, ducks, juarjual, , tucúqueres, chercanes y zorzales.-

FLORA:  Tola, cachiyuyo, la brea y grama salada.

4.-  Choose a population and explain how they are able to adapt to that ecosystem.

The flamingos are presents  in this ecosystem because their peaks are adapted to filter plants and small animals of shallow mud that have the salar.  These birds are able to sleep stand up  on one leg in freezes water in the night and then melt in the day.- (are adapted to extreme temperature changes) .-

This place is ideal for these birds in nesting times, because they do in colonies, in lonely places and the lower, near parts of lakes.

5.-  Mention some abiotic factors and explain the interactions between them and the chosen population.-

a) Desert Climate

b) Varying temperatures:   high temperatures during the day and very low temperatures at night.

c) Soil.-  (stones, sand, minerals)

The biotic and abiotic factors make a natural and  ideal ecosystem life for :  algae, mollusks and larvae of saline lakes that are food for flamingos.-

6.- What other types of interactions can you find in that ecosystem? Explain how they work.

The wetlands of northern Chile are very important, because many birds establish their migratory routes and mating.

The wetlands allow biodiversity and provide habitat for species that are endangered as the Chilean Flamingo and other animals.-

8.-  Explain the need to have  national parks in that  location?

Because in this region, biotic and abiotic factors made a natural and ideal ecosystem for Chilean flamingos, other birds and animals in danger of extinction.

These places are a natural ecosystem that the state of the Chile preserves, conserves and protects human intervention making national reserve.

9.- Identify some irresponsible actions from visitors  in that national park.  Explain

  1. waste and garbage left by visitors.-
  2. Entry of wetlands or lakes for swimming or take pictures polluting the place and away these animals from their habitat.-.
  3. Disturbance of waterfowl from dogs and cats that bring visitors, killing and eating eggs of flamingos.

  1. destruction and theft of Infrastructure of protected wilderness areas.
  2. Presence of people camping in places not allowed.-

  1. Vehicles  traffic in places not allowed.-

8.- Explain how those actions have an impact in that ecosystem.

  1. The garbage pollutes the environment, killing some species and forcing others to emigrate.-
  2. The disturbance of people and domestic pets to native animals results in: the decline of population for stress in mating time, disappearing  eggs and bird deaths by pets.-

  1. Investment in infrastructure, subtracting money for the protection of these reserves.-

  1. The presence of people camping in reserves in the prohibited places, alter the ecosystem and pollute as they use biotic and abiotic resources and waste products that bring from cities.-

9.-  Suggest possible actions you could take to prevent those negative impacts.  Explain and give examples:

  1. Census of the various birds especially flamingos.
  2. Observation of vegetation that mantaining  the ecosystem.—
  3.  Patrols to monitor the number and condition in which the species are found.
  1. Environmental educational actions directed to schools and  visitors of these protected areas.
  2. Monitoring and protecting the environment, especially in times of massive tourists.-
  3. Cleaning Campaing.-
