Resumen De Goodwill Hunting

Good Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant, Written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, is a drama masterpiece cinematographed by Jean Yves Escoffier, starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Daisy Driver and Stellan Skarsgard and the music of Danny Elfman.

Will hunting is a Young self-teaching prodigy who works at MIT institute as a janitor. There, an award winning math teacher will discover his prodigious capacities in math and physics, and will try to give another direction to Will’s life. After the math professor named Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard) bail him out of jail, he also manages to convince Will of accepting a psychologist called Sean McGuire, which will engage a deep relationship with him, at the same time Will will fall in love with a Harvard student called Skylar (Minnie Driver), and also, the relationship with his friends, especially one of them, chuckie (Ben Affleck), will undergo a slight transformation.

Many factors will disturb Will’s life, such as professor Lambeau harassing him to get the best jobs in the labor market, hoping Will will someday become a genius capable of helping humanity with his powerful intellect, then, his girl Skylar, wants to establish an engagement really early from the date they met, provoking him to feel insecure and scared about his future with her, and last, his relationship with Sean, the therapist dealing and still traumatized to his wife’s death, who will make Will face his own past, a past that victimized him from abuse, a past he will never leave behind. All of this under the influence of his best friend trying to convince him to avoid his current lifestyle, he doesn’t deserve to live that way, and follow Professor Lambeau to take advantage of his capacities and brilliance.

Matt Damon character is deeply complex, emotionally distraught and confused, and above all, completely insecure. The abuse he suffered on his childhood made him have a different perspective and hardened him to the world, making him be really careful about the people near him and the ones who wants to get closer. Will Hunting have eidetic memory, and a genius math problem solving skills. The story developed at Boston, a city that in the 80’s, there was a really evident contrast between poverty and wealth, so it is shown in the motion picture, as we see the social stratum

Where will comes and works, and the social stratum where the rest of the characters (Harvard, MIT ect) come. At that time the educational system was not so good as today, regarding the foster homes and orphan child care centers.

Good Will Hunting is not personally a real heart moving work of art, although it has some moving moments. The movie is loaded with classical movie clichés like getting in touch with the inner you, as the answers of success, and the plot is highly predictable. Otherwise, the movie is entertaining and the script is just brilliant.
