Rate Of Interest

Interest rate is the amount charged, expressed as a percentage of principal, by a lender to a borrower for the use of assets. Interest rates are typically noted on an annual basis, known as the annual percentage rate (APR). The assets borrowed could include cash, consumer goods, and large assets such as a vehicle or building.

In terms of borrowed money, the interest rate is typically applied to the principal, which is the amount of money lent. The interest rate is the cost of debt for the borrower and the rate of return for the lender. (Rate Of Interest, 2018)

Nominal Interest

a rate of interest used in adding compound interest to a principal sum when interest is compounded other than annually

Effective Interest

The Effective Annual Rate (EAR) is the rate of interest actually earned on an investment or paid on a loan as a result of compounding the interest over a given period of time. It is usually higher than the nominal rate and is used to compare different financial products that calculate annual interest with different compounding periods – weekly, monthly, and yearly.  Extending the compounding periods makes the effective annual interest rate increase as time goes by. (corporatefinanceinstitute, 2018)

Simple Interest

interest paid or computed on the original principal only of a loan or on the amount of an account. Simple interest is a quick method of calculating the interest charge on a loan. Simple interest is determined by multiplying the daily interest rate by the principal by the number of days that elapse between payments. (Rate Of Interest, 2018)

Compound Interest

Compound interest (or compounding interest) is interest calculated on the initial principal and also on the accumulated interest of previous periods of a deposit or loan. Thought to have originated in 17th-century Italy, compound interest can be thought of as “interest on interest,” and will make a sum grow at a faster rate than simple interest, which is calculated only on the principal amount. The rate at which compound interest accrues depends on the frequency of compounding; the higher the number of compounding periods, the greater the compound interest. (INVERSTOPEDIA, 2018)

Future Value

The future value (FV) is the value of a current asset at a specified date in the future based on an assumed rate of growth over time.

Present Value

Present value (PV) is the current worth of a future sum of money or stream of cash flows given a specified rate of return. Future cash flows are discounted at the discount rate, and the higher the discount rate, the lower the present value of the future cash flows. Determining the appropriate discount rate is the key to properly valuing future cash flows, whether they be earnings or obligations.

Defeated Capitalization

The rate of interest conquered is that one that generates interests at the end of every period of capitalization, and is to that more we are accustomed.

Early Capitalization

To early rate it is that one that generates interests initially of every period of capitalization.
