Everybody

“What is intelligence anyway?” is the question that Isaac Asimov implies because he is well qualified to wonder what intelligence is. If you think intelligence is only to get high scores on academics, you are wrong. In the reading, we see this guy who always knew he was intelligent, he always got very high scores and he wanted people to recognize him as an intelligent person. He tells this anecdote about his auto repairman. He always thought that he was far more intelligent that his repairman. But, when anything went wrong with his car, the repairman was an expert on in it, but he was not. The auto repair man tells him this joke, and he falls for it. The repairman said to him- “but I knew for sure I’d catch you…Because you’re so goddamned educated, doc, I knew you couldn’t be very smart”. INTELLIGENCE IS BEING REALLY TALENTED IN SOMETHING YOU DO, EVERYBODY IS INTELLIGENT, IN THEIR OWN WAY; LIKE MY FRIEND EDGARDO, IS VERY INTELLIGENT ON THE ACADEMICS BUT NOT IN ANY PHYSICAL THING; AND I, DID NOT REALLY APRECCIATED THE SKILLS OF OTHER PEOPLE.

Edgardo, my best friend of high school, was a very educated person. He always got A’s in everything, he was so good that he got mad when he got a 98 on an English exam. I knew him really good, that’s why I can tell you this anecdote. This day we are at school, just chatting with our classmates, when suddenly, one of them takes out a skateboard and stars using it at school. My friend Edgardo, wanted to use the skateboard, they gave it to him. Immediately, he fell, a lot of times. He was so bad that everyone started laughing. He was really humiliated. From only that very simple experience, he realized, that he is intelligent, on the academics, but others are intelligent too, in their own ways, like, using a skateboard.

I was a really involucrate student when I was in high school. Student Council, Honor Society, being a member of a dance group, being in charge of all the activities of the religion club, which I was president, preparing a lot of things for the talent show, and so and so. I was always this bossy classmate who always told everyone what to do, because I did not had any trust in my other classmates; I wanted to everything to be just perfect and that everything was done in my way. When I and my classmates were planning our pep rally, I had a lot of ideas. I did not wanted to listen to my other classmates. It seemed like everyone was like really tired of me being that way, I guess everyone exploded. Every person in that room, started yelling at me and said some terrible things about my personality and I did not know I was like that. I got really mad at myself for being like that. I started listening to everyone; and then I realized, everyone had a lot of good ideas for the pep rally, some of them better than mine.

Other people can do things too, other people are intelligent, and everyone
