UNA VISIÓN SOBRE LA

PSICOLOGÍA COMO CIENCIA

ABSTRACT

This paper begins with two questions: Is Psychology a profession? Is Psychology a science? The answer

to the first one is that it should not be a profession; to the second, that we are still far from becoming a

science. On the basis of 19 statements, a series of queries and doubts on the scientific status of contemporary Psychology are suggested. It is proposed that Psychology must necessarily consider neurosciences and ethology as sources of knowledge; that philosophical reflection allowing conceptual definitions

must be a priority; that the abusive glorification of experimental method has to come to an end because

the tool cannot solve the conceptual difficulties; that the traditional emphasis on the factual dimension of

research and the minute attention to the theoretical and conceptual dimensions are detrimental to Psychology; and that it is urgent to create new research methods allowing access to the most refined forms of

human behavior, such as art.

RESUMEN

Este artículo se inicia con dos preguntas: ¿Es la psicología una profesión? ¿Es la psicología una ciencia?

La respuesta a la primera es que no debería serlo, y a la segunda es que no lo es. Por medio de 19

planteamientos se sugiere una serie de inquietudes y de dudas sobre la cientificidad de la psicología

contemporánea. Se propone que la psicología debe necesariamente recurrir a las neurociencias y a la

etología como fuentes de conocimiento; que la reflexión filosófica que lleva a la definición de conceptos

debe ser considerada prioritaria; que debe suspenderse la glorificación abusiva del método experimental,

pues el instrumento no resuelve los problemas conceptuales; que debe buscarse disminuir el acento

exagerado sobre lo fáctico en detrimento de lo teórico y lo conceptual, y que la psicología requiere crear

nuevos métodos de investigación que abran el acceso a la comprensión de los fenómenos auténticamente

humanos,
