In college, time is scarce and because of that is precious, but at the same time college expenses are piling up fast. A part time job is a good way to set off costs while leaving enough time for academics and extracurricular activities.

Tutoring is a good way to earn some money while being a student. If you happen to be good in a certain course you can help those in class who are struggling, you can charge for an hour or two of your time every week to help them improve. If you feel bad charging your classmates, you can also tutor at a local highschool offering subject or SAT tutoring.

Office assisting is a job that is mostly available for students. Almost every campus department needs an office assistant to help answer the phones, schedule appointments and keep files in order. It may not be the most interesting part-time job, but what you learn there may come in handy down the road if you plan on working on a office or behind a desk.

Babysitting is also one of the jobs most students keep in mind. Working parents often need someone to supervise their young children after school until they get home from work, so if it fits your class schedule, you could probably get a stable weekday gig. Otherwise, if it doesn't fit your class schedule consider sacrificing a few weekend parties in favor of kids movies and board games to earn that extra cash to pay for expenses. Plus, it would help out in the future if you plan on working with children.

If you're a college student looking for a job but worried you won't have enough time to devote to academics you can consider working as a study hall or library monitor.Responsibilities generally include the supervision of study spaces to ensure that a quiet atmosphere is maintained. It's a pretty easy job, but one with lots of down time, meaning it leaves you with time to catch up on reading, do some homework, or study for an exam.

Many universities offer tech-support nearly round-the-clock for both students and professors. The hours are usually pretty flexible, as there are lots of different shifts that need staffing. During the downtime, you can get work done too.

Most colleges dedicate a lot of their resources to research. Many departments from biology to chemistry, physics, engineering, psychology and sociology recruit paid research assistants. Not all research is in hard science. You may be able to find a job doing background research for English, history, psychology or sociology. It is also a great addition to your resume.

There are opportunities for part time work off-campus, too. Having a job while being a student is challenging, but it's necessary to pay off college expenses that keep piling up.
