Three cheers for the theater owners

Hip hip hooray! For years now, many of us parents have been asking theater owners not to let the kids into adult movies. Until now, though, they’ve ignored our requests. From now on, young people will have to prove they’re eighteen to be admitted into an adult movie. There will be no exceptions. That’s the way it should be. Kids are influenced by whatever they see on T.V. or in the movies. If they se violence on T.V. or movie screen, there’s a better chance they might be violent. I know some people say if parents don’t want their children to see certain movies they should simple tell their children they can’t see them. But now that in most families, mothers and fathers have to work full-time, parents can’t supervise their children all the time. Every body has to help out. There have to be laws. We have to enforce them. Thank you theater owners. You’ve finally done something intelligent.

I think the new plan to keep young people out of adult movies is ridiculous. Teenagers understand the world. They’re not children. Some people say that when teenagers see violent movies, they get violent, maybe that’s true for one teenager out of a thousand. Wouldn’t it also be true for adults? The theatre owners’ new policy is another example of censorship. If the policy went into effect we would loose our freedom to choose the movies we see. In my history class, we’re studying the damage censorship can cause. People should be able to make their own decisions. I hope the theatre owners change their minds.
