King Tutankhamen is one of the best known pharaohs in ancient Egypt but in reality he was a minor figure that didn't have an impact in ancient Egypt. He was born in circa 1341 B.C.E and was the 12th king of the 18th Egyptian dynasty. He reigned from 1332 B.C.E to 1323 B.C.E for 9 years. During his reign Egypt returned to his traditional art and religion that had changed during Akhenaton’s reign who led the “Amarna Revolution”. He was the son of Akhenaton and according to history probably one of his sisters. He died at the age of 19 and practically disappeared from history until the discovery of his tomb in 1922 which has led to unravelling the mysteries of his life and his given a lot of information about that time period.

King Tutankhamen was buried in a tomb in the Valleys of the Kings. His premature death made him had a hasty burial in a smaller tomb most likely built for a lesser noble. The body had the same process of the traditional mummification. Seventy days after his death, his bond was laid in the tomb and sealed. After this Tutankhamen disappeared from Egyptian history and resurfaced again in 1920. Even the location of his tomb was lost as it was covered form debris of a tombs later build

Most of what is known about the Tutankhamen comes from the discovery of his tomb that occurred in the early 1900s. Carter and two other partners entered the interior chambers of the tomb in November 26, 1922. To their surprise they found most of the artifacts inside of the chamber intact. There were walls with murals painted on it that told the story about the death, funeral and his journey to the afterworld. In the room they also found oils, perfumes, toys, jewelry and statues of gold and ebony.

The most important and most amazing discovery found in tomb was the stone sarcophagus. The sarcophagus contained three coffins, one inside of the other, with a final coffin made of gold. When the last coffin was opened a mummy that had been preserved for more than 3,000 years was revealed. With Tutankhamen’s mummy many artifacts like bracelets, rings and collars. For the next 17 years Carter and his group excavated the tomb discovering an incredible collection of invaluable objects.

The coffin of Tutankhamen followed the Egyptian style of that period. Even though it was recently changed by his father king Akhenaton that changed the Egyptian style to more elongated bodies and head. Tutankhamen restored Egypt back to his old culture which they followed for hundreds of years. Egyptian art was static, usually formal, strangely abstract and normally had a blocky nature. As most of the Egyptian art this tomb was not meant to be seen but to follow King Tutankhamen in his afterlife. Now we stare in awe the magnificent work of
