What have we learned about not profit organizations in the UK?

Not profit organizations are also known as “Third Sector”. This sector is based on beneficent activities, philanthropic, charitable, religious, cultural, educational, scientific, artistic, literary, recreation, protection of the environment, sports, and other services, and its main target is to achieve social purposes, in others words, it does not earn profits for its owners. The organization belongs to the society and contributions, donations and grants constitute usually the main sources of financial, economic and material of a Non for profit organization.

There are two main types of Non for profit organizations that are foundation, which is a legal organization that donate funds and support to other organizations, or provide the source of funding for its own charitable purposes, and Non-Governmental Organization, which is an organized social group, nonprofit, solidarity actions characterized by in favor of the population.

Nonprofit organizations work in two areas which are social and cultural areas. The first one is dealing with social work, environment protection or human rights like Caritas or Greenpeace, and the second one promotes artists, care and preservation of historical books and documents.

As we know, there are several nonprofit organizations in the UK and these are Sexual Freedom Coalition whose target is to get freedom for people to watch pornography and see prostitution as something legal, The Salvation Army which is an international, religious and charity movement with a military system, Cab International based in agricultural and environmental topics.

The most common nonprofit organizations in the UK are based in voluntary organizations and charities, people give money to stimulate these activities. Private generosity is generally high. Charitable activities in the UK have a very important human dimension for the British people. Voluntary work has a symbolic importance in the UK. We can highlight The Wellcome Trust Company as the most wealthiest and successful British non-profit organization which is based in London. It was established 78 years ago as an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health.

This sector has been on the rise since the late 1990s and to know what British society thinks about the field of nonprofit organizations or if they have been involved in, we have collected information through different research methods.

Most of these people were involved in nonprofit organization a few times and they have donated, or they know someone who has participated in. The main organization they would support is charitable organization and they usually agree nonprofit organizations are exempt from income tax and other taxes.

Another research method we used is netnography, we analyzed different blogs, which we have mentioned before, to know what people think about nonprofit organizations and their experiences taking part in it. We can conclude the following ideas:

- Most of people are in favour of ONGs, but there are also people who think that ONGs are working as a private organization to get money for them and not for helping needy people.

- British people think that the best way to defeat poverty is through education. They believe that if ONGs teach people in needy countries, they will be able to grow.

- The task of these organizations is very positive but sometimes they don’t receive enough help from the government.

- NGOs should be complemented with government’s activities for trying to the social labor has more transcendence.

As a conclusion, we can say that in the
