nsumido alcohol, siendo factor protector
el dedica
r más horas a la lectura,
cine o

Abstract
The most recent health surveys show a high rate of alcohol consumption among
young people (81%), between 14 and 18 years old. This consumption is accentuated on
the weekends. We must pay atten
tion to this population to prevent hazardous drinking
or intervening in situations where the problem really exists and that should be a priority
in public health.
The multi
-
causal nature of alcohol consumption in adolescence
justifies preventive interventi
ons for the modification of risk and protective factors.
The objectives of this study are to determine the frequency of alcohol consumption
and its distribution among schoolchildren of Murcia Region, to analyze the association
between alcohol consumption
and family structure and composition and assessments of
family relationships, leisure activities, sport and smoking in adolescents.
For the study we interviewed 2290 students between 12 and 16 years old in the
Murcia Region in 2007. Data analysis was per
formed using SPSS v. 18.0. Firstly, we
explored all variables of the study by contingency analysis. Then, we analyzed the
alcohol consumption variable and the variables related to family characteristics, use of
leisure time, sports and smoking using logist
ic regression analysis.
In boys, an increased likelihood of alcohol consumption was associated with
reporting bad relationships with father and siblings, with being the second among
siblings, hours spent playing with video games during weekdays, going out
with friends
on the weekends, and smoking. A decreased likelihood of alcohol consumption was
16
associated with hours spent reading or going to cinema or theater during the week, and
hours spent on sport on weekends.
In girls, an increased likelihood of a
lcohol consumption was associated with
having bad relationships with the father, mother and
siblings, with being the second
among siblings, hours spent playing video games on weekdays, going out with friends
on weekend, and smoking. A decreased likelihood
of alcohol consumption was
associated with hours spent reading, going to cinema or theatre during the week, and
hours using video games on weekends.
