PART ONE.
This is a remarkable story, uncommon, where a boy named Santiago lived in Andalusia.
One day was in an old church he cares for his sheep and put them in that old church, carrying a book and jacket, he decided to spend the night there. He swept the floor with his jacket and lay down using the book he had just finished reading as a pillow. He told himself that he would have to start reading thicker books, and after he speaks with the sheep. He always believed that the sheep were able to understand what he said.
He always wanted to travel and see new cities and not be a priest like his parents wanted but did not know how to say, until one day I took the courage to do it, he like to travel the world, and the next day his father gave him some gold coins, his father blessed him, took his book, sheep’s, jacket and started the travel.
After he meet a old woman, she led he to a room at the back of her house, the room`s furnishings consisted of a table, an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and two chairs. She sat down, and told him to be seated as well, and then she took both of his hands in hers, and began quietly to pray, it sounded like a Gypsy prayer. He becoming nervous, his hands began to tremble.
He told her he had had the same dream twice where a child guiding him to the pyramids of Egypt, she kept silent and said nothing, he followed his dream telling him, a moment later said no you would charge for now but she wanted a share of the treasure, after she ran him that had long lost.
Then went to buy food, was to change his book and sat in a chair in the square, he started to read the book he had bought. On the very first page it described a burial ceremony and the names of the people involved were very difficult to pronounce.
After an old man came and sat on one side of the he, but the slightly annoyed presence, but he wanted to talk, and old man asked he what book was reading. He was tempted to be rude, and move to another bench, but his father had taught him to be respectful of the elderly, so he held out the book to the old man for two reasons: first wasn`t sure how to pronounce the title; and second, that if the old man didn`t know how to read, he would probably feel ashamed and decide of his own accord to change benches, but the old man had already read the book and was surprised, he said it was boring but important.
They talked a long time and at times he felt humiliated for not knowing some things, else was irritated and asked him the book the old man was probably a Gypsy he told her to give him some of his sheep; he remembered the dream and thought that maybe the old man was the husband of the old gypsy woman.
After the old man wrote in the sand and one thing shone in the chest, that the sight of the hurt and the old man was covered fast, he wrote the names of the parents Santiago in the sand, their childhood games, things that did not count anyone and their first sexual experience. The old man was a king.
They had an even more serious talk where they talked about the personal legend of Santiago and the old man was explaining some things, they were silent for a while watching the place and the people, after the old man told her a story of a man who sold popcorn in the square; the old man returned the book and told him that he saw tomorrow at noon in the plaza to give him the information sheep’s and treasure. Returned to the barn with him sheep for the longest road but the next day back to square six sheep’s to give them the old man, he said in order to find the treasure, you will have to follow the omens, God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the omens that he left for you. Before a butterfly appeared and fluttered between him and the old man; he gave two stones one white and one black, were called Urim and Thummim, the black signifies ``yes` `and the white ``no``. He put the stones in his pouch and after a while kept walking.
Africa thought that was very strange, but was continued in a bar where he saw many strange people and in the table ordered a bitter and then I met a man who also spoke Spanish and had appearance the Western. The man and he had a talk about the pyramids, he wanted the man to be his guide and showed him the money he had but I get the owner bar and told them to leave. The man said it helped but needed two camels; they were walking through a small market he did not want to lose sight of the man but a t distracted moment by watching a beautiful sword, but the man disappeared, he decided to wait there but they removed the posts and the sun went down then he began to mourn because I knew it was lost after looking in his backpack to see if had food but only found his jacket, the book and the two stones that gave the old man.
The next morning I woke up an old and I was happy to help a baker in the market and gave her a sweet. Then he went to find work in the crystals merchant the owner does not answer then began to clean the vase with his jacket, clean for half an hour and then the owner told him to go to eat when finished the owner said that if I wanted to work but he still wanted to get to the pyramids but thought he did not have enough money.
PART TWO.
He had been working for the crystal merchant for almost a month, and he could see that it wasn’t exactly the kind of job that would make him happy after a while save money, the merchant and he made the place a facelift to attract more people; spent two months and had more gains. He had planned to stay six months more in order to have more money and go to the pyramids and buy his sheep and had learned to speak the language of Egypt he felt proud of what he had achieved.
After old and had a talk for old and he was a blessing that things had changed a lot and now everything was improving; after a while the business was improving old and he invented to sell you in glass jars the old contract two more employees.
They spent eleven months since he arrived in the continent African, in the morning he put on his clothes arabe and he got out to smoke a cigar in silence and when just reached into his pocket and stared at the bills that had thought it was enough money to buy twenty sheep’s. He hopes the old wake up and went to get coffee, he told her already had enough money and it was time to go he asked his blessing and old said nothing after some time said he was proud of him and gave him his blessing. Return to his room to fix everything that had and I found the backpack in a corner with the jacket and the book was also stones that gave the old man and reminded. Leave their stuff near the staircase was the perfect time to say goodbye but this moment but at that moment I remembered the baker, the owner of the crystals and the old man all had something like, but I went without leave of the merchant because they wanted mourn and people could see.
After the path until you reach a building there was English, Arabic and a European reading some books, but the European was antipoetic. He started playing on the rocks that gave the old man and the English was amazed when counted that the king had given but English said he did not have much value. Then had a talk He told them he was going on a treasure hunt but regretted but the English man do not take importance, come the leader of the caravan said a dark-eyed, bearded man, he hold the power of life and death for every person, the desert is a capricious lady, and sometimes she drives men crazy. There were almost two hundred people gathered there, and four hundred animals, camels, horses, mules and fowl, in the crowd were women, children, and a number of men with swords at their belts and rifles slung on their shoulders. He said there are lot different people here, and each has his own God, but the only God serve is Allah, and in his name swear that he will do everything possible once again to win out over the desert, but they want each and every one of you to swear by the God you believe in that you will follow my orders no matter that. In the desert, disobedience means death. After Santiago and English man had a talk, bought camels to cross the desert, the camel English was very full of books.
Then the caravan moved toward the easy, they travelled during the morning, but halted when the sun was at its strongest, and resumed late in the afternoon. He spoke very little with the English man. During the travel he started to observe all…means, camels and desert sand since it was more fun. But it was not so bored during the trip a camel began to tell about his life he told a very sad story that had happened to their neighbors and family,
In the desert at other times, mysterious, hooded men would appear, they were Bedouins who did surveillance along the caravan route, they provided warning about thieves and barbarian tribes. They came in silence and departed the same way, dresses in back garments that showed only their eyes. One night, a camel driver came to the fire where the English man and they were sitting; he told them there are rumors of tribal wars. He noted that there was a sense of fear in the air, even though no one said anything. After they had a talk about the danger this could occasional but the camel said that entering the desert can not go back and had a little discussion.
The caravans began to walk faster and were more silent, and travelers made a wheel with animals and they slept in the middle trying to protect themselves from the cold. It was a moonlit night and he told his story to the English man, was fascinated with the story was incredible they talked about alchemy. The next day began again and the Englishman caravan loan him some books for he the books were strange and a bit boring but the English man told him it was very interesting and difficult to understand.
