ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission to AZPod, the successful candidate must submit the following documented evidence:

1. Minimum cumulative GPA and science GPAs of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale.

2. Ability to successfully complete a rigorous curriculum which requires critical thinking skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and voluminous reading, as well as the capacity for responsible, self-directed learning.

3. Competitive scores on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

4. Completion of the necessary course prerequisites. The candidate must complete a minimum of 90 semester hours at a regionally accredited college or university. A bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.

5. Two letters of recommendation.

6. A good understanding of podiatric medicine and a sincere interest in a career in the field. Candidates will not be accepted if they have not visited at least one podiatric practice.

7. Demonstration of extracurricular or community activities that indicate a well-rounded background and demonstrate a service orientation.

8. Medically-related experiences that indicate sufficient exposure to allow an informed decision about a medical career.

9. Personal integrity and sound moral character.

10. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to relate effectively with others.

11. Passage of the Midwestern University criminal background check.

12. Commitment to abide by the Midwestern University Drug-Free Workplace and Substance Abuse Policy.

Admissions Requirements

You need a minimum of 90 semester hours of undergraduate study at an accredited institution in order to be considered for Barry University's School of Podiatric Medicine. The university prefers the completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college of arts and sciences in the United States.

*Prerequisite courses include:

• Biology - 8 semester hours

• General or inorganic chemistry - 8 semester hours

• Organic chemistry - 8 semester hours

• Physics - 8 semester hours

• English - 6 semester hours

• Recommended courses are in cell and molecular biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry to strengthen premedical background knowledge.

• One (1) letter of recommendation from a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

• Two (2) letters of recommendations from academic professors or advisors

• Please note: The letters of recommendations from academic professors and advisors can be substituted with a Health Professional Advisory Report.

• Current scores from the Medical College Admission Test.

• A personal interview arranged by invitation-only from the Admission Committee. Prior to the interview, applicants should visit at least one office of a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine to discuss and observe the practice of podiatric medicine (a letter confirming that visit is required).

• Please note: Interviews will not be granted without an official MCAT score from AACPM.

• You must submit a TOEFL examination score, if the primary language of the institution where you received your university/college degree is not English.

There are two versions of the TOEFL:

• The computer-based test scores range from 0 to 300. Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine requires a score of 250

• The Internet-based test (IBT) scores range from 0 to 120.Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine requires a score of 100.

The application filing period extends from September 1 through June 30 for the next Fall entering class. Application received prior to April 1st will receive priority consideration, though applications will be accepted after the deadline date on a space-available basis. Applicants are considered on a rolling basis, and are notified of the admission decision after all required materials are received and evaluated. Upon acceptance, applicants are required to submit an acceptance deposit of $1,000.00 to ensure a place in the class. The deposit is credited towards the first term tuition. All matriculated students are required to have a physical examination and designated immunizations prior to the beginning of the academic year.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must have all prerequisites courses completed prior to the start of the term. The program at CSPM is a rigorous, medical curriculum and applicants are expected to be of the same caliber as those of applicants to all medical colleges.

Most matriculated students have had a curriculum that includes three or more of the following recommended courses: anatomy, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, and physiology, as well as a spectrum of liberal arts subjects. A combination course such as genetics, embryology, virology, and immunology will also be beneficial.
