12 Years a Slave
In this document I will give my personal opinion on the film 12 years a slave, I will not go as deep in the characters as it is difficult for me to remember the names, more than anything I prefer to say my perception of the different situations that went away Giving throughout the film, taking into account the time in which this happens and the way in which today is seen this type of situations.
First I would like to mention that beyond the beliefs that were held at that time the way they took free people was not acceptable in any way, including at that time. It is always good to give your opinion about such subjects because you are forced to realize how you really think, in this case of course that I am against such actions, beyond the racism that was something that was "allowed" if they are a way to say it at that time is outrageous to see the treatment that was given to another human being and of course it gives you courage to know that something like that happened at some point in history and I would not be surprised if it keeps happening, what is really worrying is that humanity has not given importance to this kind of thing as it was the holocaust of which the Germans are embarrassed to speak, but today there are still people who think that is right.
Speaking again about the film, we have the contrast of two people that the Americans call "white trash" one is to which Solomon asks him to send the letter that he writes and to which he gives all his money, this person even when being In the same conditions of poverty that the others who were there was still considered superior for which he was betrayed, the other personage was the Canadian who, having in a different culture, was more focused on that subject and despite sharing poverty and " Work "was more than willing to help him and the only thing he wanted in return was the freedom of Solomon.
Another two characters to analyze within the film were Mr. Ford and Mr. Epps, the first that despite having a feeling of empathy towards the slaves did not do anything to free them and was still part of the system for fear that people would think Or that is what I think, the second who developed a sense of hatred towards them but in spite of this was attracted to one of his slaves but also denied it because it would not be seen by anyone.
Finally I will mention two female characters, the wife of Mr. Epps who, realizing what happened, did not have the courage to leave him for fear of returning to his former life and the lady with whom one of the slaves took tea, which she predicted at some point to have become a person equal to the others because she herself had people who attended and in order to maintain that lifestyle, did nothing for the others.
My final opinion about the film is that open your eyes of what the humanity did in certain part of history and is necessary to do more films like this because at this age they are a lot of people that have bad thoughts about this kind of things, I like to mention that in this writing I don’t use any words that could help for the description of the movie just because I don’t feel comfortable using it
