WATER TREATMENT BY ULTRAVIOLET

UV LIGHT

Treatment systems and disinfection of water by UV light (UV ) , guarantee the elimination of between 99.9 % and 99.99 pathogens. To achieve this level of almost total effectiveness through this physical process, it is absolutely essential that the previous processes of water almost completely eliminate any turbidity of the same , as well Ultraviolet should be able to cross the flow of water to be treated.

UV light does not change the properties of water or air , that is, not chemically alter the structure of the treated fluid . Unlike chemical disinfection techniques , which involve the handling of hazardous substances and reactions that result as unwanted byproducts , UV light provides disinfection process clean , safe, effective and proven through decades of successful applications.

FEATURES OF LIGHT UV DISINFECTION GERMICIDAL

• Disinfection Instantly And Efficiently

• Safe

• Cleans

• The most cost-effective

• Environmentally appropriate

Of all the current methods of disinfection , ultraviolet light (UV ) is the most efficient , economical and safe. Moreover, its germicidal action is done in seconds or fractions thereof , is also the most environmentally suitable method used worldwide over several decades. The UV light occurs naturally within the electromagnetic spectrum of solar radiation in the range between 200 and 300 nanometers ( nm ) known as UV -C , which is lethal to microorganisms.

The use of ultraviolet light to purify drinking water is not new , it is a concept that has existed for over one hundred years , despite its early beginnings , the science behind UV disinfection is complex. To understand the basics of how UV light purifies water requires a relatively deep understanding of physics, chemistry and biology .

OPERATION

The artificial generation of UV light is carried out through an emitter ( lamp ) of pure quartz , which contains an inert gas which is responsible for providing the initial discharge , and as the power is increased, the heat produced by the transmitter also increases along with the internal gas pressure , which causes excitation of electrons moving through different wavelength lines , producing UV light. A low pressure discharge produces a spectrum at 185 and 253.7 nm. UV light emitters produce medium pressure polywave radiation , ie , different wavelengths of different intensity through the UV - C spectrum

( 200-300 nm ) .

DNA , or deoxyribonucleic acid, is responsible for directing all activities within living cells. All cells should have intact DNA to run correctly . SU structure is very similar to a ladder that has been twisted at both ends resulting in a spiral appearance.

When microorganisms are exposed to a suitable dose of ultraviolet radiation at 253.7 nm wavelength (UV - C ) , DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid ) of the cells absorb UV photons causing irreversible photochemical reaction which inactivates and destroys cells.

BIOLOGICOS EFFECTS

The property has the DNA present in the nucleus of the molecules of all microorganisms (bacteria , viruses, fungi and cysts ) to absorb UV radiation has the effect of breaking the chains of amino acids of proteins, causing a metabolic disruption affecting their reproductive mechanism and achieving its inactivation by removing their properties to produce diseases and microbiological growth . One of the main benefits when applying UV light disinfection purposes is that any chemical is not used to it.

ADVANTAGES OF USING ULTRAVIOLET

Finally , we will detail some of the advantages of this type of treatment :

• It is a physical treatment , without storage stock of any hazardous chemical.

• Does not change the properties of the treated water.

• No danger or negative effects on water in case of overdose .

• Simple and inexpensive maintenance of facilities.

• Easy installation on existing water pipes .

• Can be used for water intended for different uses : drinking , food industry, industrial processes , laboratories , agriculture, etc. .

• Compatible with other processes such as ozon generators
