Book report

Name of the book: Emma

Author: Jane Austen

“Emma” is a Jane Austen book that narrates the story of Emma Woodhouse, a beautiful girl that love to make matches but she doesn't see what is in front of her almost losing her own chance of a perfect match.

Significant ideas:

Everyone can rectify their mistakes and be forgiven.

Example: “she knew she had been wrong and she was certain she would never do it again”.

Be poor or rich don’ defines who you are or how you need to be.

Example: “I used to think she was a silly girl, but the more I talked to her the more I saw that she is kind and sensible.”

The love always found a place in your heart and mind even if you don't notice.

Example: “she would be unhappy if Mr. Knightley married”.

Universal theme:

The central idea of Emma is: the importance of relationships with the happiness and satisfaction of humans, since Emma's life was full of relationships and the search for more relationships for her and her friends was part of begging.

Imagery:

Emma has imagery to get the reader's attention and make them feel as if they were in the story.

Example: "Two carriages went from Hartfield and Mr. Woodhouse made arrangements to meet Mr. Elton at his house and take him to Randall's with them." In this image he makes the reader visualize in his mind the carriages and their journeys, calling the attention of the reader.

Rhetorical devices:

The rhetorical devices are presents in Emma’s book creating a lot of effects that can call the attention of the reader, some of them are:

Parallelism: “He had not wanted Harriet, had never thought about her as a wife”.

With this the author is making emphasis in the idea that she wants to expose, in this case she is making emphasis about Mr. Elton never wanted Harriet as a wife.
