CARDINAL NUMBERS
Los números cardinales son unidades básicas. Con ellos se puede contar y expresar una cantidad.

Las decenas
En inglés británico se escribe and entre las centenas y las decenas. Si no hay decenas, también ha de escribirse and antes de la unidad. En inglés americano se suele omitir esta partícula.
- 110 – one hundred and ten
(American English: one hundred ten) - 1,250 – one thousand, two hundred and fifty
(American English: one thousand, two hundred fifty)
Las centenas
El número 100 va acompañado del artículo indeterminado a o de one cuando va solo, y de one cuando forma parte de una cifra mayor.
- 100 – a hundred/one hundred
- 2,100 – two thousand, one hundred
Los millares y los millones
Tal y como ocurre con las centenas, los millares y los millones también van precedidos de a o one.
- 1,000 - a thousand/one thousand
- 201,000 - two hundred and one thousand
Mil millones, un billón, etc.
Las palabras billion, trillion etc. se refieren a una cifra distinta en cada idioma, lo que a menudo provoca confusión. En inglés, one billion tiene nueve ceros (o sea, mil millones, en español), y one trillion tiene 12 ceros (es decir, un billón en español).
- one million = 1,000,000 (6 ceros)
- one billion = 1,000,000,000 (9 ceros)
- one trillion = 1,000,000,000,000 (12 ceros)
- one quadrillion = 1,000,000,000,000,000 (15 ceros)
