Control of Pet Population

Some studies say that more than 30% of the dogs that are in street situations are because someone abandoned them or left them free for different circumstances. Many of the dogs that are found abandoned in the city are because they no longer have enough space in their house to have so many dogs, another reason is that sometimes they only sell them and if they are not sold they choose to leave them free because they expect their dog to have more puppies. That is why it is necessary to have control of dogs at home, as long as it is not a small number like two pets or something similar, in my opinion having five pets is enough as long as you have the resources to keep them healthily, to pay for their food, their vaccinations, and other care that your pet needs because having a pet contains different factors.

To begin with, the government must have control over the animals owned by each family to prevent an overabundance of ill-treated dogs, cats, or other animals being found on the streets. Almost 90% of the animals we meet on the streets are dirty, underweight, and unattractive. The Clinica Veterinarian Vetfamily discusses the need for animal population management. These can be an issue for them or society, as an example, is provided. For instance, many times that we go out to the street, we can find big dogs on the sidewalks, and sometimes one of those dogs is aggressive. The fierce dogs are not always like that; some cases exist because there are many dogs in the street. Most of the time when I see a person on a bicycle passing by a place where there are many dogs in the street, most of the time they start barking, they want to jump on the bike, or they simply chase it for about two more blocks. When all this happens, they endanger people who just want to go for a walk, buy something at the store, or do any other type of activity. There are even cases where dogs on the street have killed or bitten people and caused irreversible damage that will leave them with a scar forever. One of the most important reasons why you should have control over the population of pets is to avoid the spread of diseases or bacteria that many of the dogs or animals that are abandoned have; with this, you can prevent other animals from getting infected (Sarba 2).

Without going too far, the neighboring country, in this case, is Mexico, which is the number one country in Latin America with the most stray dogs. We can see the reasons why this country is the number one with the most animals on the streets. Here we can read that many people decide to buy a dog, and at the time of crossing it, they can no longer keep so many pets in a house due to a lack of resources. That is why they choose to let their dogs loose, or they go and abandon them on the street because they can no longer take responsibility for them since they do not have enough money, time, or desire to take care of a pet. Another very common reason, which is hardly talked about, is that sometimes many owners leave their dogs in the yard and their pets go out into the street and meet another dog, after which their pet becomes pregnant, and the owners become concerned. They just don't want any more pets in their house, so they leave them outside a house or on the street so that the dogs grow up on their own. It is a very sad reality that I have had to see how there are newborn dogs or cats in boxes, in vacant lots, or lonely places because a person decides to leave those dogs there, or in order not to fight, they choose to leave the pregnant dog there alone to no longer bear that responsibility. In some countries, they also opt for the sterilization of their pets so that they no longer have puppies, and this is the same way to control the population of pets. Likewise, some cities are already making it a rule to only be able to have one or two pets. At home, they decide by the house and not by the family because there are cases where more than one family can live in the house, and it is necessary to be able to control the population of pets. The adoption of animals is the same to stop the overpopulation of animals, that is to say, they would stop the sale of pets to promote the adoption of animals. The governments of each country, region, city, or town sometimes carry out institutions where there are many dogs to adopt and can have a family capable of taking care of them and giving them all the necessary care that a pet entails.

We as human beings can help this stop and stop seeing overpopulation in the streets of our city or prevent this from happening in our city, as I mentioned before we can start adopting dogs or cats since they need a lot of loved people, we can also opt for the sterilization of pets since it helps both the health of the animals and that you help so that there are not so many animals, or simply take the care that they should be. The problems also caused by having an overpopulation of animals in the streets is that when they relieve themselves their defecations even block the drains in the streets, this causes that when it rains sometimes the streets flood, clearly not everything is due to fault of animals defecations but that also has to do in part, they also generate bad odors in the city and make it dirty, and sometimes there are no people who are going to pick them up or clean them, they make the city look dirty And unpleasant, also many flies are on the streets and the flies have bacteria that can pass to your food. According to studies in France, stray dogs defecate almost 25 tons of excrement and, just like in this country, hundreds of accidents are estimated due to people slipping by stepping on one of their excrements, the animals need to eat until they begin to break garbage bags, or they start tearing down the garbage cans and make your property look dirty and smell very unpleasant. They also affect citizens and from 4% to 20% of the bites that a stray dog gives you become infected, In Brazil, studies of chronically infected adult dogs estimated a prevalence of 10%–20%. and they must go to the doctor to be checked (Chiebao 770), we can also see car accidents because many stops now to avoid running over the puppies and not hurt them, on some occasions this causes an accident because cars can come behind that cannot brake and crash into the car in front. In 2005 in Mexico a car accident was recorded by a person who tried to avoid a dog that was passing by and because of this he had a major accident with 12 injured and 3 seriously injured. Other people with bad feelings decide to simply keep moving the car even if an animal comes running down the street and then they end up running over them, leaving them injured in some leg, or in the ear or different parts of their extremities and on some very occasions sad they even kill them. By having control of the canine population, we avoid the reproduction of more stray animals, and we avoid diseases and sources of infection for healthy animals. From personal experience, one day I took one of my pets for a walk in the park, as the days went by she began to get sick and we had to separate her from my other pets because they ran the risk of being infected, after that, we decided to take her to the vet and they said that he had contracted a disease from a stray dog, I don't remember what disease it was but the vet told us that it was very risky to take dogs of that breed out into the street since my dog was a small breed and a bit sensitive, to Days went by and no matter how hard we tried to get him to get well, it could not be like that and my pet passed away. Since that day, we have avoided taking pets out into the street or stepping on the sidewalks where another animal is. The infections are taken since they eat food in a state of decomposition and sometimes sleep in the garbage or the rain it is a very sad situation that we do not wish on any pet, but it is usually part of the daily reality. In Ethiopia and other parts of the world roaming freely and uncontrolled dogs and cats Populations are reservoirs and transmitters of many zoonotic diseases, including rabies (Getaneh 6).Currently  90% of humans live in a city but their homes have very small patios where even sometimes there is not enough space for a pet which makes pets decide to wander the streets since they are not imposed to be in very small places, and this means that many animals are still in the street, and this has consequences that can become very harmful. In 1996 in the United States, more than 18,000 people were bitten by stray dogs, and of those 3,800 were hospitalized for contracting infection research says that they are 70%-76% male. In another city, Calama, 65% of the bites are from street animals and many are because almost when leaving the street there is already a stray animal that is acting aggressively. It is also necessary to know the percentages of the age of the people who are bitten. For example, in Mexico and Argentina, 64% of the people bitten are over 64 years old and that affects them in a great way because they are already older adults who do not have the strength. To run away from an animal or defend yourself in some way and also check where on the body it is biting you, 17% bite them on the head or neck and that is even much more dangerous, 82.2% are on the arm or leg and almost 90% are in the hands since it is the part, they use to defend themselves from the animal. 90% of dog bites are mild, 7% need to disinfect the wound and suture it, and from 1% to 5% require hospitalization or can even cause death, and clearly, all this requires a person's expenses. One of the solutions that many people choose to take is to call the kennel to take them away and take care of them, but many times they take them to end their lives and they no longer have any kind of problem, but to end the life of an animal of an innocent being that only acts through its feelings, that is why it is important to have control over the population of pets, so we avoid many problems both towards society and innocent animals.
