Why the family is considered the most important agent of socialization?

The Family is considered the most important agent of socialization because the formation and maturation of the individuals begins in the family. The social communication starts for children through family. The members of the family and mostly the parents are who send the signals and keys of society to be learn and grasp from children. Norms, beliefs, opinions and values such as discipline, respect, modesty and honesty are created and developed in a person by his family. The sense of an own personality will be set in a kid accurately through the relationship with his parents so that is why is very important the way you treat and behave with children’s.

What caused the dramatic changes to the American family? What are those changes?

The American family has experienced great changes in the last 60 years. Some of these dramatic changes are: an increase in the number of divorces as well as the non-marital cohabitation also the percent of married women and mothers with employment has suffered an increase. Meanwhile other patterns as marriage and fertility have had a regression. These transformations of the American family could have several explanations such as public and economic policies that have shifted away to protect families with low incomes, erosion or loss of religious faith, the sexual revolution and feminist and homosexual movements among others.

Describe the differences in marriage and family life that are linked to class, race, gender, and personal choice.

Family life and marriage are social instances that are related with class, race or gender and these elements create deep differences. If we analyze the different social layers we’ll see like the lower class families has problems to sustain themselves by the lack of opportunities reducing the likelihood of marriage meanwhile the working class families who are the majority of families suffered more than any the economic changes moving the idea of a family model. The middle class families continue being the model idealized having access to safety lifestyles as medical coverage. Finally the wealthy families with economic power has opportunities that are not available to the rest of the families and the marriages are linked to members of elite clubs and colleges focus on keep capital an wealth. The racial difference produces inequality opportunities and it’s enough to analyze how these opportunities define that poverty rates are three times less in White families than African American and Latino families. Still the gender systems affect families because the patriarchy shapes a lot of social patterns and the division of domestic work limits women outside home.
