INTRODUCTION

Introduce yourself (first names, surnames) at the performance

We are: Stephanie Domínguez Montealegre, Laura Nataly Quintero Díaz, Kevin Caguazango Cuevas, Juan Sebastián Muñoz Chantre and Esteban Narváez Grisales. We are going to represent some problems that can be experienced at San Buenaventura University and in other educational institutions.

Mention what you're going to talk about in acting. ("In this performance, I'm going to play the role of... who is it...")

Nataly: In this presentation I will do the narration of the performance and the voiceover to contextualize the scenes of the work.

Stephanie: In this performance I'm going to play the role of a professor who must follow the rules of the university, but who has a problem with a student.

Kevin: In this performance I am going to play a student dedicated to his studies, who likes to follow the rules of the university and who helps his classmates to be orderly and well behaved in the classroom.

Juan S: In this performance I am going to play a student who during Professor Stephanie’s class uses his cell phone constantly and does not pay attention to the explanation, so I have low grades and calls of attention.

Esteban: In this performance I am going to play a student who is always late, interrupting the class and missing part of the explanation.

Introduction

1. Enter your script, use some simple sentences.

Example:

Environment: University

Scene 1: Inside the classroom. Characters: Study

Conflict: Student A has a problem...

Nataly: On the first day of class after 2 years of quarantine, where classes were virtual and there are many classmates who don’t know each other and don’t know what the dynamics of the university are, will they be able to adapt?

Stephanie: Good morning, everyone, my name is Stephanie Dominguez, and I will be your Economics teacher, we will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

All students: good morning.

(Sebastian picks up the cell phone and Kevin the notebook)

Stephanie: I will give you the rules of the game, and presentation of the course as it has always been done...

(Esteban enters making noise)

Esteban: Good morning, Professor, excuse the delay.

Stephanie: There's no problem, Esteban.

Kevin: Professor, what is the arrival time?

Stephanie: 7:05 am (pretending she is still teaching; she can do some operations on the board).

Nataly: This is how the first day of class went, the professor recognizes that students are used to watching class from home, they are very dependent on technology and don't mind interrupting

(We left the classroom, as if ending the day).

Body

2. Talk about your plot and the times used.

Example:

The center of the plot of our folktale is about not giving up during difficulties, using English in our career, using Simple Past, Perfect Times, etc.

Second day, Wednesday

Stephanie: Well guys being 7:05 am as we had agreed I will start the class, today you should pay special attention because we will talk about a crucial topic for the examn, so if you pay attention to me, you will do very well in it.

(Stephanie starts talking about commercial policies)

(Sebastian is still on his cell phone, he doesn't pay attention)

Kevin: You should put your cell phone away so you can pay attention to the teacher

Sebastian: If I used my cell phone in virtual classes, I won't stop using it now. She only told us about the non-use of the cell phone to annoy us, she also has to understand that now the classes must use technology.

Kevin: But you're not using it for class, you're using it to chat.

Stephanie: Guys, please pay attention in class, it's important for the exam, I won't repeat it. I would also like to remind you that if you were late, you would probably lose the exam, like some classmates I don't want to name.

(Stephanie continues to explain, Kevin continues to write, and Sebastian continues on the cell phone).

Esteban enters at 9 in the morning

Esteban: Good morning professor, how have you been? What a shame to arrive at this hour

Stephanie: Good morning, Esteban, I think we had made it clear what the arrival times were at the classroom.

Esteban: Two years ago I used to come to class at any time and there was no problem.

Stephanie: But in this class you can't come in whenever you want  Esteban, I don't like your answer, please sit down, and don't interrupt the class anymore.

(Esteban sits down and starts talking to Sebastian)

Stephanie: Well, guys, does anyone know what a tariff is?

Kevin: A tariff is a tax that is levied on goods that are imported.

Stephanie: And the types of tariffs?

Kevin: Ad Valorem, quotas or mixed

Stephanie: Take your time Kevin when answering, we already know that you know but I need to know that others are connected to the class (said in a tone of annoyance)

Kevin: It's okay teacher (Kevin doesn't like the professor's tone of voice so he doesn't participate again in the whole class).

(Sebastian's phone rings and Sebastian answers)

Sebastian: Hello mother, how are you? yes mother I will be home at 2 pm so I can run errands at the bank.

Stephanie: Really guys, I've never had such a disrespectful group.  If you continue with these attitudes, I will no longer teach the class (leave the classroom and leave the class there)

Nataly: We see that the second day of class didn’t go well and that everyone has ways of acting that are not adequate. Will the students and teacher be able to resolve these conflicts and accept their mistakes?

Final

3. Express how the situation was resolved and the moral of the story.

Example:

We decided that in the end the main character wasa good choice because he/she...  The moral of the story  is...

The last day of the week Friday

Esteban, Sebastian, and Kevin arrive 10 minutes early to class.

Sebastian: Guys, I thought about how I acted, and it wasn’t the right thing to do. I know that I should respect the spaces and the rules of the class. I also want to apologize for being rude to Kevin because he only wanted to give me advice and I didn't react in the best way.

Esteban: I also want to apologize to you two classmates, because during the two classes we have had, I have been arriving late and that interrupts the class. I also want to apologize to the professor when she arrives. I don't want to be on bad terms with her for the whole semester.

Kevin: Sebastian and Esteban no problem. But we must talk to the teacher, the last class ended very badly.

(Stephanie walks into the classroom and sits down)

Stephanie: Well guys, anyone wants to comment on what happened in the last class?

(They are silent out of shame and bow their heads)

Stephanie: Guys we have to talk to solve things here, we are already grown-up people who can speak and reach agreements. Because if we don't reach agreements the next step is to escalate with the program director.

Esteban: Professor, I would like to talk first and apologize for the attitude of last class, I know it was wrong not to abide by the rules and react in that way.

Sebastian: I also apologize professor for interrupting the class with the call and excessive use of the cell phone. I know it wasn't right.

Kevin: Professor I know my classmates haven’t had the best attitude, but I would like to talk about the manner you talked to me the previous class. Since no one was participating, I wanted to do it. I know I should have waited a more prudent time to answer but the way you talked to me didn’t seem the best.

Stephanie: I thank you guys for reflecting and apologizing for the behaviors you had. Regarding Kevin, I apologize for the tone of voice in which I spoke to him; it wasn´t the right one. I also apologize to everyone for leaving the class in the middle and not generating the right dialogue.

Esteban: So, can we go over the class rules again?

Sebastian: Yes, teacher, I think it would be best to review them again so that we can keep them in mind and follow them.

Stephanie: Sure guys, no problem.

---End of the play---

Nataly: And that's how the students and teacher solved the problems that were coming up in the classroom, through dialogue and in a way that everyone could agree on.  Where the characters made a list of commitments, and the next thing is that everyone complies with what was proposed

CONCLUSIONS

Farewell

3. Express your opinions and ideas based on the theme of your performance.

Example: We chose the theme of ... because we consider that... therefore...

Nataly: We chose this topic because these are situations that happen constantly in the classroom and are disrespectful. We know that we all have our needs or problems, but there is a solution for everything, such as going out to eat in the hallway, answering calls outside the classroom, coming in quietly if we are late or talking to the teacher if there is a problem.

Therefore, our play is an invitation to be more respectful and to take actions that don’t harm our classmates or the classroom environment.
