CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD FRIEND

What are the qualities and characteristics that a good friend should have? Why is it so important that a good friend has those characteristics? Before answering these questions should we answer the following question: What is a friend? It is very difficult to find a good definition of friendship. Some conceive of it as a virtue that leads to a strong, deep, selfless and reciprocal with another person. For the Royal Spanish Academy, is the "personal affection, pure and selfless, shared with another person, who is born and is strengthened by the deal". For me, friendship is a human need to survive and relate to others. We need it to have joy, to learn to be tolerant, generous among others. It arises when two or more people develop mutual affection, selfless and unconditional.

A friend is like a brother, but there is a fundamental difference, friends not given to us, we can choose them. At this point is the key issue. Friends are so important in our lives because it is a relationship that we ourselves decided to create and maintain. Nothing and no one forces us to endure, as it can happen with certain relatives. Instead, friendship is generated when two people choose each other to share part of their lives, experiences, interests, knowledge, activities, etc.

Personally, I have very few friends, although many classmates and acquaintances. In order to classify a person as a good friend this must have certain qualities and characteristics. Among the most important features that a good friend should have are: reliability, respectful and selflessness. I believe these are the most important because if your friend has them you can hardly fail in other ways. I will explain briefly what each one of these features and why I think it is important that a good friend has them.

RELIABLE

Friendship is a maximum level of mutual trust. True friends have every confidence. Do not even think about the possibility that the other person is not being honest or sincere. They want our good, so will not be able to hide painful truths, the things that sometimes do not want to hear. When establishing a true relationship of trust, constructive criticism from our friends help us improve, develop our potential having sincere judgment of someone who appreciates us and wants the best for us.

A good friend behaves the same way when we are present and when we are away. Do not speak ill behind us. It is able to defend against others if necessary, because it relies heavily on us. Be our friend at all times, in good times and bad not only when things are going well. It is a reliable and knows how to be discreet. This is essential in a good friendship, as this way you will know to respect our privacy without the need to tell you that does not have anything that we have said. Confidentiality and discretion are paramount in the relationship that marks two great friends.

I want to share an example of what two good reliable friends did for me last year when I was in ninth grade. Once I placed my bag on the desk in the classroom and by bad luck the desk broke. Apparently it was already broken. The teacher thought I had broken it and quoted my mother so that she would pay the damage that according to her I had caused. When my mother came to the appointment with the teacher my two friends entered the room and told the teacher and my mother that the desk was broken and I had not been to blame. Thanks these two good friends got rid of a great punishment. I know that I can trust in these two friends.

RESPECTFUL

There was a time I thought that the perfect friend was a soul mate, but this is not so. True friends can have different opinions, whether in religious, political, or moral love, both respect and friendship will be over their opinions and beliefs. Friends do not try to impose their own opinion but we extend the
