History and Evolution

As early as 400 BC, Hippocrates recommended miners using clean bathrooms, in order to avoidexternal saturation of the body with lead. Also, Plato and Aristotle, studied certain physical deformations, produced by certain occupational activities, raising the need for prevention. However, before the seventeenth century, that is, with the advent of the first industrial revolution , there wereindustrial installations as such, and major work activities focused on handicrafts ,agriculture or livestock , among others. Most industrial products and services, is based on thephysical exploitation of natural resources. The workers, laid hold of experiencefor generations, based on the application of efforts rather personal, with defensive character andnot preventive. Thus was born the industrial activity, reflected in the beginning, as a simple individual effort or,best of union type , rather than an organized system. Using increasingly tautenedmachinery and equipment, began to see the need to establish certain principles of regulations in the variousindustries , applicable in the workplace .

A late seventeenth and early eighteenth century, English made good progress in their manuals industries, especially in textiles ; the appearance and use of the force of water vapor and the machining industry ,brought an increase in labor on spinning machines and mechanical looms , which produced aconsiderable increase in production quotas .

Therefore, by 1833, the first inspections were conductedgovernment and , in 1850 , employment gains were made as a result of the recommendationsmade by the inspectors. Legislation shortened the workday, set a minimum age forchild workers and made some improvements in the security of workers.Currently, the International Labour Organization (ILO) is the governing body and guardian of theprinciples and concerns regarding the physical , material and legal conditions of organized labor.

To conceptualize industrial engineering in the context of history, must be established , firstly , therelationship between science and engineering. Science is the constant pursuit of knowledge and that knowledge (theory related to the practical) , must be accurate and reasoned ; is the methodical application of the binomial" knowledge - wit " scientifically , utilitarian purposes .

That's why, based engineering is thescience and human inspired her to conduct scientific research. The history of science andengineering, are intertwined and that interaction, goes back to the origins of man known .The origin of engineering, practically, was in the flowering of the buildings, canalsirrigation and other buildings of ancient civilizations.

The Egyptians, Phoenicians, Greeks and Hindus, were theThey set the knowledge of geometry, long before 300 BC. C., being Eurykles and Thales ofMiletus, the early Greek geometers. Advances in the practical domain of geometry, are evident inbuildings like the pyramids of Egypt or the works of the Romans, such as large aqueducts, roads and buildings , setting in practice , civil engineering, as the first branchspecialized engineering. Thus, they form the "reserves of knowledge of civilization " with thecontributions, progressive and cumulative, different societies and individuals to universal knowledge..

Modern engineering , science-based , began after the Renaissance period , with thecivil engineering, as such , the oldest branch (approx Towards 1750 . ) ; was so biological knowledge ,physical, chemical , and all aspects of production, and organizations , they develop andsystematizing , until, just in the late seventeenth century, the English Thomas Savery built the first machine capableuseful work run . Thanks to the contribution of Galileo, Newton and Thompson, among others , the bases would be establishedof modern physics , mechanical engineering emerged as an important second specialized branch, toearly nineteenth century.
