ABSTRACT

As you may know since we were kids we had that safety sense everytime we were about to do something dangerous, now as grown men and women we know that we are always in risk in every single task, there is a change for us to get hurt. Industrial Security is a safety practice that we all know since we were young, is a program established to safeguard industry. As said on Rubin’s article (2009), “Plans are worthless; planning is everything”. This is a true statement because planning means think about everything that could happen in different situations. Also Lang (2009) mentioned that a risk analysis should identify all kind of threats and categorize a risk, thinking about how probably will happen and how dangerous it is.

Industrial Security: An emergency plan in case of disaster

An emergency plan in case of disaster should guide us through simple steps and warnings when something that we do not want to happen, happen. In schools is very common to see on the hallway some signs about fire accidents and may be earthquakes, but does the students really know what they have to do in these cases? As said on Trump’s article Reducing Risks with School Security Assessments (1999), nobody can offer a 100 percent guarantee that a violent or natural disaster will not occur in the school, but what we can do is to be prepared to identify steps that we must have taken to reduce risks

Why a plan?

As said on Trump’s article School Emergency Planning (2009), a solid school emergency plan provides a good vehicle for cognitive, not emotional, responses to school emergencies. Well developed and exercised emergency plans in the hands of a well-trained school staff can help school administrators and their crisis teams avoid making emotional decisions.

A cognitive-based decision-making process, rather than an emotionally driven process, can mean the difference between life and death. Without a plan will be no correct response to a disaster, that is why the importance of an emergency plan in a school.

Plan development and content

“So what attributes give a plan extrinsic value?” said Jeff Rubin on his article Five key qualities of emergency planning (2009). Here we are about to mention the main points of it starting with

1. Scope: Clearly define whether the plan stops at coordination or is focused on operations. Assess hazards non-ideologically and focus on how they can affect the organization’s ability to carry out its critical functions, which themselves should be defined, a well defined scope is better to prevent any kind of accident we must keep our eye on the target at the time we are planning something so important.

2. Realism: Describe relevant capabilities that actually exist and identify gaps.
