TRANSPORT

Antioquia region has been recognized for its strength and development contributing to the country's progress significantly. Medellin is a wonderful city that respects its history but constantly evolving.

The physical expansion of the city on the field Aburrá Valley, with the initial step of 18 blocks over 10,000, its made him think of implementing alternative forms of transport because of its rapid pace of growth that caused the mobilization of its inhabitants were chaotic especially during peak hours. At that moment marked the beginning of what we now know as the culture Metro and a number of projects that make up the integrated transport system.

After several years and some difficulties, in 1995 launched the backbone of mobility in Medellin, service revived the dream of having a meter in the Aburrá Valley and so far the only country. The Metro is a mass transit system spanning large capacity Medellin metropolitan area from south to north, line A. Then a year after 1996 began circulating B line from the center of Medellin to the west of the city and those born after metrocable project in order to further improve the conditions for mobility in the city.

Metro cable System currently has three (3) lines with aerial cable technology: Line J in communes 7 and 13 of the West of Medellin, Line K in the communes 1 and 2 of the Northeast of the city and line L between Santo Domingo station and the El Tambo: Arví. This is the first line of METRO. It being a tourist line has an additional value. Besides The municipality of Medellín, wants to be recognized as the country's mobile capital, so in 2011 began operating the articulated bus Line 1: Metroplus. The system runs several miles from the University of Medellin in the West and the Parque de Aranjuez in the northeast.

Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley and the Eafit University. "PBS" is a public bicycle system is an alternative that of urban mobility. These bikes are designed to be used as public transport. This makes it possible to pick up a bike from one service point and return system in different service elsewhere, to facilitate user's mobility.

In urban areas the main benefits that users have been highlighted: More security, because they are less vulnerable to theft, money-saving, efficiency in transport times, civic culture around the theme of cycling and environmental awareness because biking is not just a means recreational, is also a means of transport.

I want to highlight one of the projects that most impact jurors in his visit to the city last December was the escalators that replaced the cement for high slope neighborhoods in Comuna 13 in Medellin, low resources and problems of violence, because this is continues to promote sustainable transport projects and friendly environment while seeking to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of this area. The first escalators public and free in the country, and the first in the world to serve between 5 am and 10 pm along 128 kilometers and benefit 135,000 people living in this commune.

SOME PROBLEMS AND CORRECTIVE

However, one aspect that worries a bit and causing discomfort despite many efforts to make our transportation efficient and friendly to the environment are: air pollution due to growing number of vehicles, traffic intensity and vehicles in poor condition noise pollution and abuse in the use of horns or alarms by drivers of private vehicles and public transport. According to a study conducted by the Medellin or about the environment in our city in 2011 introduces the "canyon effect" roads are narrow and surrounded by buildings which generates the noise spread more easily and exceed tolerable noise levels, for which the City of Medellin project and Intelligent mobility System (SIMM) seeks to address the problems of mobility technology solutions that reduce congestion and the number of road accidents, improve safety, reduce travel times, pollution and fuel consumption etc. .
