CITY NAME

Rincon name was chosen in honor of Don Gonzalo de Rincon. This as a token of appreciation from people who lived in this town for the year 1770. According to the story for the years 1520 to 1523 in the village operated a sugar mill, specifically in the neighborhood Calvache owned by Don Tomas Castellon and called the Ingenio San Juan de las Palmas, or Sugar Hut. This was the first and only of its kind. Don Thomas also had a farm with about 100 slaves and two butlers, and Gonzalo Rincon favorite. Don Tomas dying left in his will to Don Gonzalo de Rincon as one of his heirs favoring him with lands and 150 coins of gold.

Some historians believe that Don Gonzalo owned the land where he is currently the village and it allowed some poor families to build there. This area is known as Cerro de los Pobres.

Don Pablo Arroyo, backed by many neighbors called the August 27, 1770 a license to found a town by the name of Santa Rosa de Rincón after whom it allowed people to live there. Then it becomes Rincón.

Atalaya- 824 Population.

Barrero- 1,019 Population.

Calvache- 2,169 Population.

Cruces- 1,296 Population.

Ensenada- 1,301 Population.

Jagüey- 865 Population.

Pueblo- 3393 Population.

Tips- 1,679 Population.

Rincón Pueblo- 1,030 Population.

Rio Grande- 1,191 Population.

Total Population: 14,767

Poblacional density was 410 inhabitants per square kilometer (1,055 per square mile).

HISTORICAL SITES:

LIGHTHOUSE

Built in 1892 to cover the space between the headlights of Punta Borinquen and Cabo Rojo.

THE CAMBIJA

Built in 1872, had the function to store water to supply the city railway crossing by Rincón. Located in the Barrio Pueblo on the street that has his name, Street Cambija.

CATHOLIC CHURCH

Founded in 1789. At that time it had two patrons: Santa Rosa de Lima and San Antonio de Padua.

BOAT MILLÁN

Built over 50 years ago by Mr. Emiliano "Millan" Altiery, in honor of his work as fishermen.

CULTURAL CENTER

Born in 1962, under the chairmanship of Mr. Francisco de León Sáez.

MUSEUM OF TECHNOLOGY (OLD FLOOR BONUS)

This structure was formerly a Nuclear Plant built in 1960 by the Atomic Energy Commission of EU, the Water Resources Authority of Puerto Rico (DOE) and the Electric Power Authority.

HOUSE RAFFUCCI

Built in the 19th century by Alfredo Raffucci, busy years later when he married second, having been widowed.

SUNSET VILLAGE

"Sunset Village" was built in 2005. It is located near public Spa. It features a restaurant, shops, a beauty salon, ice cream parlor, offices and a gazebo, where you can admire the beauty and splendor that has Rincón. It is currently located where the Tourist Office.
