Resumen

: El presente documento muestra en forma sintética

los hallazgos de la investigación que las division

es

académicas de Ciencias Básicas e Ingeniería (CBI),

Ciencias Biológicas y de la Salud (CBS) y Ciencias

Sociales

y Humanidades (CSH) de la Universidad Autónoma Metr

opolitana (UAM) Campus Iztapalapa, requirieron para

responder a la problemática de la deserción escolar

que en particular en la UAM-I adquiere matices

preocupantes. La investigación trata de responder a

la pregunta de cuáles fueron las causas o motivos

de la

deserción de estudiantes en todas las carreras (más

de 24) que tienen las tres divisiones académicas d

e la UAM-

I. La perspectiva de análisis del estudio establece

que las causas son multivariadas y corresponden ta

nto a la

dimensión universitaria como extrauniversitaria. Es

decir, el fenómeno no puede ser explicado, por ej

emplo,

por

las limitaciones socio-económicas de las familias,

ni por la falta de integración del estudiante al am

biente

universitario, como tampoco exclusivamente por el d

esempeño escolar, sino que se define por varios de

ellos de

modo compuesto, encontrando así, los

núcleos explicativos

responsables en diverso grado de la situación. La

investigación recupera la metodología de la encuest

a aplicada a dos cohortes de estudio alejadas en el

tiempo,

con una población de control de estudiantes en acti

vo. También aplica un instrumento de análisis cuali

tativo

basado en grupos focales y entrevistas a profundida

d con una población seleccionada de la muestra dete

rminada

para la encuesta.

Abstract

: The present document shows in synthetic form the

finds of the investigation that the academic divis

ions

of CBI, CBS and CSH at the UAM University to respo

nd to the problems of the school dropouts that part

icularly in

the UAM-I acquires worrying shades. This report tri

es to respond to the question of which were the cau

ses or

motives of the dropout of students in all the caree

rs (more than 24) of the UAM-I split in three acade

mic divisions.

The perspective of analysis of the study establishe

s that the causes are multivariate and they corresp

ond such as

to the university dimension as others individual pr

oblems. That is to say, the phenomenon cannot be ex

plained for

the associate-economic limitations of the families,

neither by the lack of integration of the student

to the university

environment, as neither exclusively to the school p

erformance; but is defined for several of them of c

omposed

way, finding thus, the responsible explanatory axes

in diverse degree of the situation. The methodolog

y used in

the investigation it based in the results of the su

rvey applied to two cohorts of study far away in th

e time, with a

population of students in assets. Also it applies a

n instrument of qualitative analysis based on focal

groups and

interviews to depth with a population selected of t

he specific sample for the survey.
